WHO: 70 students from Central MS/HS and Union HS
WHAT: The Engineers Alliance for the Arts (EAA) and the Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance are
proud to present this year’s bridge design competition. Sponsored by the Oklahoma
Structural Engineers Association (OSEA) and Flintco Construction, Tulsa Engineering Foundation, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Wallace Engineering, dozens of students will present their innovations to judges. Over the past 12 weeks, 14 local Architectural, Structural, and Construction design professionals mentored students by providing lessons on the engineering and art of bridges. During the mentorship program, each team has built a model bridge with guidance from the mentors. On April 28th, the students will give a two-minute oral presentation on their creation. A panel of six architecture, engineering and construction professionals will decide which teams best met the given design scenarios that include: constructing a pedestrian bridge in San
Francisco and an intermodal bridge over Panama Canal. In addition to the competition,
Oklahoma State University School of Architecture professor Jeanne Homer, AIA will speak about the importance of art in engineering.
