EWeek Student Breakfast

2015 E Week Student Breakfast – Friday, Feb. 27, 2015

Area high school students interested in learning about careers in engineering are invited to attend. Contact Chriss Chavez at 918-408-4058 or send an email to gichic7@gmail.com to register.  No cost to students.

The Breakfast and program will be held at the Wyandham Hotel Tulsa, 10918 E 41st St. on Friday, Feb 27, 2015.     Check in will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the breakfast beginning at approximately 8:00 a.m. transitioning to the career seminar for the students at about 9:00 a.m. Reservations deadline is TBD, 2015.  The breakfast program will be followed by a series of presentations for the student guests on the different engineering careers in the various disciplines.

The 2014 Engineer’s Week was February 16th through 22nd.  OSPE and SAME with the help of other TEF members hosted the annual Student/Professional Breakfast on Feb 21.  140 students enjoyed a buffet breakfast while getting to ask questions of the engineer(s) at their table.  Following breakfast there was a series of presentations on various engineering disciplines.  Sponsors of the breakfast include ASCE; Apache Corp.; Callidus Technologies; CH2M HILL; Garver; Guy Engineering; International Society of Automation (ISA); Leidos Engineering; Linde Process Plants; Michael VanSchoyck; NEOK ASHRAE; Rick & Heng-Hong Petricek; Society of Women Engineers; Terracon Consultants; T.D Williamson; TU; TEF; U.S. Army Corps of Engineer; Wallace Engineering; and Willbros Engineers.

2012 Engineering Seminar Presenters

Hollis Allen, P.E. is the Managing Director of the Tulsa Office and a Principal at Walter P Moore and Associates.  A graduate of the University of Arkansas, Mr. Allen is a licensed Professional Engineer holding licenses in 21 states and a Council Record with the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). He has 20 years of experience in the Civil Engineering field with an emphasis on land use and commercial development projects. Mr. Allen is the President of the State Chapter of the Oklahoma Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE) and serves as Trustee for the Tulsa Engineering Foundation (TEF) and the Oklahoma Engineering Foundation (OEF)

Dr. Robert Durhan, PhD, P.E. is owner and Principal Engineer, THEWAY Corp. is a 1992 electrical engineering graduate of the University of Tulsa and has graduate degrees including a doctorate in engineering management from Kennedy Western University.  Following employment in the electrical utility sector, he and colleagues have been engaged in consulting on electrical power systems design and safety.  He is Principal Engineer of THEWAY Corp and frequently testifies as a forensics expert on cases involving electrical system incidents.  Dr Durham is a licensed professional engineer in many states and active in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers by serving on national standards committees.

Christina Bishop Jackson, PhD. Christina has a BS and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tulsa.  Her dissertation investigated the fundamental backbone structure of polymer electrolytes and how they relate to conductivity for the application to nanobatteries.   Christina worked for Callidus Technologies by Honeywell throughout her graduate studies and has been with the company four years.  She has held positions as Burner Project Engineer, Special Project Engineer, Customer Quality Engineer, and currently Global Quality Manager.   Christina now manages a team in Shanghai and Oklahoma to ensure quality and customer satisfaction. Christina is one of the E-Week and AIChE New Faces of Engineering 2011.   In her free time, Christina is a culinary instructor specializing in Indian and Asian cuisine and has taught a radio cooking show on OKFoodie KRMG.

Matt Norris FabLab. Matthew Norris is Board President of Fab Lab Tulsa, Inc. and is an Engineering Lead with Spirit AeroSystems.  He has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from TU. He is a licensed professional engineer with over 10 years of aerospace experience in computer simulations, advanced material systems and biologically inspired structures at The NORDAM Group, Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems. He has been involved with the launch of three airplanes; the Eclipse 500, Airbus A380 and the Boeing 787. Matt has one patent related to aerospace transparencies and has current research interests in biologically inspired structures, advanced wing shapes and innovation via social networking.  Matt is a licensed professional engineer in Oklahoma. He and his wife, Diama, and lovely daughter named Eva live in midtown Tulsa. His other hobbies include Fab Lab Tulsa and mountain climbing.

Bill Robison, P.E., Floodplain Management. Since 1998, Mr. Robison has been as an Engineer, Designer, and currently a Senior Engineer employed in stormwater planning at the City of Tulsa.  During his tenure at the City, he has been responsible for design review, the design and construction of numerous small drainage projects and, presently, is the project manager for Tulsa’s CRS program, its Hazard Mitigation Program and its FEMA grant application programs.  Prior to his service with the City of Tulsa, he has an extensive work history in construction design and management.  Mr. Robison has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Oklahoma State University and is a Professional Engineer and Certified Floodplain Manager.

2010 Engineering Seminar Presenters

Dr. Marcia Bates, P.E. is an Adjunct Professor for OSU-Tulsa and has been involved in engineering education for over 35 years.

Mr. Derek Gates, P.E. is owner and principal of D.W. Gates Engineering Services, an electrical consulting engineering firm focusing primarily on power and lighting design.  Customers include the City of Tulsa, ODOT, Southwestern Bell Telephone and various architects, utility companies and engineering concerns.

Dr. LaRue holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati, an M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Oklahoma State University.  Upon graduation he entered the oilfield with the Amoco Production Company, and has worked both for international majors as well as large and small domestic independents.  A significant portion of his industry experience has been spent in reservoir engineering and property acquisitions.

Jana Smith grew up in Tulsa and graduated from Booker T. Washington in 2002.  She then went on to attend the University of Tulsa and graduated with a Bachelors in Science in Mechanical Engineering in 2006.  Jana’s passion for aerospace began in 2005 when she accepted an internship with Spirit AeroSystems (formerly Boeing) in Tulsa, and she has worked for the company ever since.  Over the past five years, Jana has worked on the 787 and 747-8 Leading Edge Wings in both metallic and composite design.   She is also attending the University of Tulsa once again and taking MBA classes in the evenings.  In her spare time she likes to garden, crochet, read, and spend time with her husband and their two dogs and two cats.

Ramona Willig, P.E. graduated from Willard (Missouri) High School in 1974.  She attended the University of Missouri – Rolla (now Missouri University for Science and Technology), graduating in 1978 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering.  She began working with the Kansas City District Corps of Engineers in 1978 and transferred to the Tulsa District Corps of Engineers in 1980.  She lived in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from October 1981 until March of 1983, at which time she returned to work for the Tulsa District.Ramona worked in both environmental engineering and military project management, until her recent assignment as Deputy Chief, Engineering and Construction Division.   She has two married sons, and loves to spend time gardening and bicycle-riding with her husband.

2009 ENGINEER-FOR-A-DAY The Engineers’ Society of Tulsa and the Tulsa Chapter of the Oklahoma Society of Professional Engineers host a breakfast for Friday of Engineers Week for high school seniors.  This year’s event was held on February 20, 2009 at the Hilton Southern Hills Hotel.  Below is a list of those who participated.

Dr. Marcia Bates, P.E. is an Adjunct Professor for OSU-Tulsa and has been involved in engineering education for over 35 years.

Mr. Clif Warren, P.E. is Chief of the Engineering and Construction Division for the U.S. Army COE, Tulsa District.  Mr Warren joined the Army COE in 1982 and held previous assignments as design engineer, project manager, resident engineer and supervisor over the course of his time with the Corps.

John Henshaw, PhD, P.E., is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Tulsa. His research interests include composite materials, engineering design, and alternative energy. He has received over 20 teaching awards and has published numerous articles.
