About TECh 2014

2014Tulsa Engineering Challenge (TECh) was held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Tulsa Technology Center, Riverside Campus, 801 East 91st Street, Jenks, Oklahoma.

To see a complete List of the events and their basic objectives click here .  In addition to the main events there are lots of other exciting things to do at TECh. There are other contests open to all participants the day of the challenge that do not require advanced preparation. Also, since TECh is held in an airport hanger, there are some fascinating displays relating to airplanes. Local universities, companies and engineering organizations also setup booths where students can learn about careers in science and engineering.

At this one-day event held annually, students in grades 4 -12 compete in events where they design and build a specific device to compete against other area students.  The events are fun and rewarding for the students.  More importantly, the hands-on-learning is often the spark that inspires a student to pursue a career in science and engineering.

In 2014 more than 1100 students participated.  They represented 34 schools & divisions (divisions were 6th grade and under, 7th & 8th grade, and 9th – 12th grade).  They participated in 14 events intended to whet the appetite of our younger generation for careers in engineering, sciences, and math.  In addition to the events, there were several exhibitors including a Chemistry Physics Magic Show.  It was indeed a joint society event with almost every member of the Tulsa Engineering Foundation (TEF)  participating — either as exhibitors, volunteers or judges. Over 90 volunteers helped the day of the event.  Below is a listof the sponsors and the activities & the organizations responsible.

In planning for each year, we need help in a number of ways.  We need volunteers that can help organize the event and/or help on the day of the event.  We need individuals or companies to sponsor activities by donating money, prizes, or giveaways.  Most significantly, we need help spreading the word about the event.  Less than 10% of schools that could participate actually do. If you know a student that is not involved with TECh, let their teacher/school know about it. For more information: email tulsatechchallenge@gmail.com  (Jennifer Butler, Chairman)
