SPE: Driven Interactions: Frac Hit Risk Reduction, Casing Damage & more

June 27, 2019 @ 11:20 am - 1:00 pm UTC-6

Topic: Driven Interactions: Frac Hit Risk Reduction, Casing Damage Potential, and Real Time Warning Signals

Speaker: George E. King, GEK Engineering

Register: To register and pay by credit card, or to make reservations to pay with cash or check at the door,* go to https://spemc062719.eventbrite.com. Registration ends 48 hours prior to the luncheon. No walk-ins please.

Description
Fracture driven interactions, formerly known as “frac hits”, are common among closely spaced, multiple fractured horizontal wells. Some result in no damage or short-term gains but others result in production decreases and/or casing damage. Workflows have been developed that can help identify high-risk wells for fracture intersections, but can also indicate which connections will likely be short-term and which can result in potential casing damage. The presentation will also share information on possible recovery methods for loss of production.

Speaker
George E. King
George, a long time SPE member, is a consultant through his company, GEK Engineering, specializing in well completions, interventions, and well failures. He has 48 years of oilfield experience starting with Amoco and is a former distinguished engineering adviser at Apache Corp. George is a professional engineer in multiple states. He earned a chemistry degree from Oklahoma State University and chemical engineering and petroleum engineering degrees from the University of Tulsa, where he became an adjunct professor. He has authored more than 60 technical papers and was awarded the 2004 SPE Production and Operations Award and the 2012 Engineer of the Year Award from the Houston Region of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers.

George recently co-authored a journal, “Horizontal Well Frac-Driven Interactions: Types, Consequences, and Damage Mitigation”, with Ali Daneshy, SPE. That journal provided highlights of a December, 2018, meeting among 15 industry experts representing different parts of the fracturing community. That 3 page journal was printed in the June, 2019, edition of SPE’s JPT Magazine.
